Crisfield Crab Picking contest, 2010 - part 2

Crisfield Crab Picking contest, 2010 - part 2

I posted a few photos from the Crisfield crab picking contest the day of the contest. Here are more, along with some of the same photos and text from that day.

"Somerset County has some of the fastest crab pickers around. Each year we offer them a chance to show off their skills. This year's winner was Hazel "Hurricane" Cropper. Need I say how she got her nickname? Cropper picked 4.5 pounds of crabs in 15 minutes. It takes me that long to get the meat out of 3 crabs. Congratulations to Cropper, who just won her 15th crab-picking contest."

Congratulations to all of the crab pickers. They did a fantastic job.

Please use the archives located at the bottom of the right-hand tool bar to find all events from Crab Derby and any other posts you may be looking for. For those of you looking for the rest of boat docking (I have a booty of photos to come), they may not come until mid next week. Also still to come next week: Fireworks sponsored by the Crisfield Chamber of Commerce and put on by the Pittsville Volunteer Fire Department (I did not forget you Sparky), Deal Island skipjack races and boat docking (another booty of photos), crab races, and more!

The contestants...

Time! Now for the weighing.

The winners...

Hazel "Huricane" Cropper took the grand prize.

Hazel gets a hug from her son.

After the contest spectators bought up the fresh-picked crab meat. It doesn't get any fresher than that!
