2012 Easter Egg Hunt in Havre de Grace, Maryland

 Harford County, Maryland events 2012
Havre de Grace Easter Egg Hunt: April 7, at noon at Tydings Park. Event sponsored by Havre de Grace Recreation Committee.

Why am I posting a Havre de Grace event? Because I am now posting photos and events from just about everywhere in Maryland, and sometimes West Virginia, because I am no longer tied to one location. Besides, our son lives off Wheel Road in Bel Air, and we visit that part of Maryland often. And, of course, because my readers are spread out all over the country, many being from Maryland, Virginia, and the DC area.

In fact, I am giving you not only posts of present and future events, but of past events, covering other states and countries in photos. This is a photo site. Wherever my little beat-up cameras have been, or will be taking me, is where I will take you. So stay tuned for happenings and 'happeneds' from many places.

Visit the Harford County Maryland site and start planning now.

Travel tip: Havre de Grace is home to the famous Martha Lewis skipjack, winner of 9 skipjack races. Below is one of the photos I took of the Martha Lewis during one of the skipjack races at Deal Island, while shooting from another skipjack. If you are in Havre de Grace, or just passing through, check the water to see if she is in port. Want the experience of sailing on the Martha Lewis? Check out their website for upcoming events.

Bills and junk, mostly. I am moving towards paying everything online, and when my Wall Street Journal subscription runs out, I will get an e-subscription for my iPad. I can move it to an "e" now, but I still like the feel of the newspaper in my hands. Is your mailbox endangered? I know mine will soon be going the way of this box.

Vacancy

Osprey landing

I wanted to paint in a 'For Rent' sign on this filtered photo of an osprey platform, but I figured filtering a photo is already going way beyond news photojournalism. Yes, I am filtering more now that I am retired, but I still feel guilty because one of the first lessons a news journalist learns is no playing with the photo, except for a little burning and dodging.   But this is a photo site, not a newspaper, and I like eye-candy.

If you happen to see any homeless ospreys, send them our way. Plenty of nesting sites still available on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

Abbey Road on the River comes to DC, Labor Day weekend, 2012

Abbey Road comes to Maryland, Labor Day 2012
“Yesterday our troubles seemed so far away, I believe in yesterday.” ~  The Beatles

Yesterday is happening this Labor Day, 2012, at the Gaylord National Hotel and Convention Center in National Harbor Maryland (just minutes from Washington, DC).

Let's see? I will show my age here, and say that I first saw The Beatles perform in 1965, at the Atlanta Stadium. I was sixteen. I  had to use my whole allowance to pay for a seat. The price of a ticket: $5.50, and that was for the good seats.  At home, I had numerous photos of The Beatles plastered about my room, and I had a John Lennon hat that I have to admit looked better on him than it did not me. Still, I wore it to the concert where I swooned over the Fab Four.

I can't say I grew up with The Beatles, but when I think about it,  we pretty much all did. They crossed culture-lines, they made us cry, laugh, and wonder. They were sensational, they were controversial - they spilled into our lives through music and in the news. While their songs played, we fell in and out of love, got married, had children, and introduced our children to the magic of The Beatles.

I have never met anyone who can't pick a favorite Beatles song, and I have found that tribute bands draw both young and old. Everyone is looking for romanticism in this electronic whirl-wind world. The sounds of The Beatles takes us all back to a time when things may not have been easier, but they were simpler.

Join me at Abbey Road in Washington, DC - August 30 - September 3, and enjoy the magic of Yesterday. Click on the link above, or here, for everything-you-need-to-know about Abbey Road on the River, and for reservations at the Gaylord.  Hotel deals, arranged by Abbey Road, at the Gaylord National Hotel and Convention Center are in full swing (as of this posting). I got a "fab" price on a room with atrium view. If you miss out, don't blame me.

Fans in Louisville, Kentucky (I know I have some readers in that part of the country) can find info at Abbey Road site for May 24-28 event. Can't get enough of The Beatles? Do them both!

Yes, I will be posting lots of photos from the event. Maybe my camera will find you! Being retired has its rewards.

Oh, I am especially looking forward to hearing the Abbey Road LIVE! band again. They are from Athens, GA. When I lived in Georgia, I did not live far from Athens, so weekends were pretty much spent "partying" in true Southern style.

Abbey Road on the River is produced by Abbey Road on the River LLC, a Kentucky Limited Liability Corporation, and 365 Events, an Ohio sole proprietorship. "The Beatles" is a federally registered trademark of Apple Corps Limited ("Apple"). Abbey Road on the River is not endorsed by or affiliated with Apple Corps Limited.

Some of my followers may recognize this photo. I was looking for a spring file photo to change my wintery banner, and thought this was a good time to dust off this photo.

I recently visited Gettysburg and Antietam. This photo somehow got mixed in with a completely different batch of photos, so excuse my lack of knowledge. If you know this statue/memorial, drop me a line at Crisfieldblogger@gmail.com, so I can place it in the right folder.

"Coffee is the best thing to douse the sunrise with."  ~ Terri Guillemets

Passing through Princess Anne? Stop at Get'n Grounded for a good cup of coffee. Eat and drink inside and enjoy their relaxing atmosphere, or grab a cup to go at the drive-through window. I usually have my coffee inside (actually soy-cappuccino), but on this day I was in a rush.  With a camera handy, I could not resist a quick snap.

Had I been paying attention, I would have noticed that the labels were facing the wrong way. My defenses: I am retired and no longer have to think about things like that, I was in a hurry, and it was my first cup of coffee for the day.

Gas prices around Maryland, March, 2012

Gas prices around Maryland March 2012
"There was a sign at the station near by my house that said, 'We take Visa, MasterCard, Discover Card, and American Express.' After I filled up they took my Visa, Master Card, my Discover Card, and my American Express." ~ Jay Leno

I don't think gas prices are funny, but what else can we do but laugh? Well, we could not drive as much, something that would hurt the companies that depend on our urge to drive. Unfortunately, the joke is on us. Send me your gas price photos: crisfieldblogger@gmail.com

FYI: Marylanders pay 23.5 cents a gallon tax on gasoline. Florida has the lowest gasoline tax at 4 cents, and Washington, California, and North Carolina take the prizes for the highest gasoline taxes at 37.5, 35.3 and 35.2, respectively. Maryland's governor recently proposed a six percent gas tax increase.

2011 Deal Island Fireman of Year George Mister

Congratulations to George Mister who was named the 2011 Fireman of the Year at the volunteer fire department's annual banquet, held on March 17, 2012. I ran into George and his wife at an after-party event. Could I resist a chance to photograph a celebrity?

And behind good fireman, there is a woman, willing to sacrifice her man for our safety.
