Crisfield Elks Lodge events for February 2011

Crisfield Elks Lodge events for February 2011
The Crisfield Elks Lodge #1044 would like
to remind you of the following February events.

Sunday, February 6: Super Bowl Party - starts at 6:00 p.m.

Saturday, February 12: Locks of of Love dinner at 6:00 p.m. - cutting at 7:00 p.m.

Friday, February 18: Bounty of the Bay oyster dinner at 6:00.  Remember the last one? Yum.

The Elks Lodge was packed with people enjoying fresh oysters. There were so many people they ran out of oysters, but the supply was quickly replenished.

Bingo!

Puddle Duck work boat

Puddle Duck work boat

While running errands and driving back and forth to work, local residents enjoy seeing this work boat when passing by a long-closed antique shop. Many people have wanted to buy the boat but it is too far gone. If moved, it would literally fall apart. For now, it gives travelers pleasure, conjuring up the days when work boats filled the Chesapeake bay by the thousands.

Crisfield American Legion

Crisfield American Legion
Spending a little time supporting our Legions and Lodges is a great way to pass those long cold evenings. I recently snapped these photos at the Crisfield American Legion. I oftentimes head to the Legion or the Crisfield Elks Lodge, or anywhere else I am invited,  to see what is happening and catch some happy smiling faces.

Relay for Life Kickoff

Relay for Life Kickoff
“Relay For Life is a celebration as well as a unique, challenging and fun way to raise money for the American Cancer Society and to raise cancer awareness in the community.” ~ Paula Fambrough

The theme for the Somerset County Relay for Life kickoff, held at Maho's in Crisfield was "Lights! Cameras! Cure!" I had my cameras there to document the event. The organization hopes to reach a $50,000 goal, a figure they are already moving towards. Read full story in the January 26, edition of the Crisfield-Somerset County Times. If you would  like to help, please call Vickie at  410.968.0442.

This tiny cancer survivor is an inspiration to us all.

Snow?

Snow?
We had a light dusting of snow in the wee hours of the morning and it melted so quickly there are no photos, or is it because I slept in? Everyone knows that if  a storm is headed our way I keep a watchful eye, ready to run out of the house at any time - day or night, but since little or no snow was predicted, I was not too concerned about staying up all night. So in the absence of snow, I present you with a file photo of the warmer days ahead. Spring is only 52 days away!

If you have cabin fever put on your dancing shoes and  enjoy the 1st annual Winter Blues Ball to be held at the Elks Lodge in Crisfield on Saturday, Jan. 29th, 2011. Dinner is by Peaky's and our own Flea will be providing the music. Proceeds benefit clients of Somerset County Community Services. It's a good cause, so call 410.623.2261 to reserve your seats or tables. Tickets are $25; Tables are $200 for a group of ten. 6:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m.
