How dry is it?

Falling leaves of August
"You see, I had been riding with the storm clouds, and had come to earth as rain, and it was drought that I had killed with the power that the Six Grandfathers gave me." ~ Black Elk

Falling leaves usually mean it's time to start dusting off the blankets. In this case, the Dog Days of August are just curling up on our doorsteps. We could use some riders on the storm.

Good food

Good food in Crisfield
Our local restaurants serve up great Eastern Shore food, but sometimes we like to hang out at home and do all the hard work ourselves. We recently had a few friends over for a backyard "steamer" meal that included shrimp, baby neck clams, Crisfield crabs, snow crab legs, and corn. Yum.

That's just gotta make you hungry!

My secret place in Crisfield
"To keep your secret is wisdom; but to expect others to keep it is folly." ~ Samuel Johnson

This must be my week for secret places. Johnson was right about expecting others to keep your secrets, especially when it comes to special places. Could you imagine telling people about places like this, or about my most recent beach photos?  I can't tell you where this is, but wouldn't you just love to get cozy in that chair on the deck and do nothing all day but listen to the waves lapping at the rocks? I was thinking a good book and a glass of wine would be in order, but why clutter up perfection. I think we do that too much these days.

One of my secret Maryland beaches....

Maryland Beaches
I don't like to torture my out-of-state readers by posting photos of my secret places, but I do like to share the beauty of The Eastern Shore of Maryland. We have many small sandy beaches scattered around the area, most a short boat ride out, and you can easily find them if you explore. This is one of my favorite beaches where friends get together for a good time. I took these photos at our beach party on July 23, 2011. If you can find us, dock on in, and join the party. You will be sworn to secrecy.
