Kwanzaa creator Dr. Maulana Karenga speaks at University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, Maryland
Kwanzaa creator Dr. Maulana Karenga recently spoke to students and faculty at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne. For those not familiar with Princess Anne, it is about a twenty-minute drive from Crisfield, both being in Somerset County. Dr. Karenga, a professor at California State University-Long Beach, is no stranger to Maryland. He was born in Parsonsburg. Below are a few photos I took of Dr. Karenga's visit for the Crisfield-Somerset County Times.

While on the subject of the UMES, let me add that the university is a beautiful place, consisting of 600 acres and 28 major buildings along with 41 other units. If you have plans for college in your future check out their web site. From Agriculture to Airway Science, UMES has something for everyone.
And speaking of "everyone," don't miss the annual UMES Gala, 'Hollywood on the Shore' to be held on March 5, 2011. The Gala is the University's premier annual fund-raising event to raise funds for student scholarships. I have covered a few of these Galas and they are one of the hottest tickets on the Eastern Shore. This year's guests are Sharon Stone, LeVar Burton, Tyne Daly, and David Alan Grier and Pam Grier. Click here for tickets and details on stars.
I will be on duty at the Gala on March 5. Hope to see YOU there!
