Janes Island Park cleanup and Delmarva Power

Janes Island Park cleanup and Delmarva Power

Here is a photo I took on September 25, of the Janes Island State Park cleanup. I was pushed for time and could not make the cleanup sites; I was shooting the American Legion car show on that day and saw the participants and shot across the water. Thanks to everyone for coming out. Good timing, yes?

Copy from Delmarva Power in advance of the cleanup: The 24th annual Coastal Cleanup will continue on Saturday, September 25 at various locations in Delaware and on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. The Cleanup kicked off last weekend at various sites in Maryland.

For the 20th consecutive year, Delmarva Power is partnering with environmental, civic and business organizations throughout the region to support Coastal Cleanup. Each participant will receive an original Coastal Cleanup T-shirt, courtesy of Delmarva Power, the primary corporate sponsor of the event.

The regional Coastal Cleanup is part of International Coastal Cleanup, sponsored by Ocean Conservancy, a nonprofit group that works to protect the world’s oceans. The types and quantities of trash collected will be itemized. The data will then be used to pinpoint the source of debris, as well as focus on ways to reduce or eliminate waste.

In last year’s cleanup, more than 2,600 volunteers collected approximately 27,000 pounds of trash. The usual soda cans and cigarette butts were found as well as a few oddities, such as a shopping cart, jar of cherry peppers, flagpole and Sponge Bob balloons.
