For you young chickens out there, “Made it, Ma. Top of the world!” is a quote from the 1949 film noir "White Heat" staring James Cagney. Of course, all did not end well for Cagney as he spoke his last words. If you like old film noir movies, look this one up.
What does Rome have to do with a 1949 American mobster movie? Nothing. Those words just came to mind as I was posting this. Today, many people use the phrase, "Top of the world, Ma!" Though misquoted, the phrase has stood the test of time, and is used to express both good and bad situations.
