Meet Aflac, the Somers Cove Marina mascot

"Ducks eat, swim, and sleep, while we rush about as if the world was going to end at any moment. If you are stressed, just sit and watch ducks for awhile."

Since I have used the last two posts to introduce you to some of the people around our town, I thought I would introduce you to Aflac, a darling  duck that showed up at Somers Cove Marina in Crisfield around 4 years ago. No one knows how Aflac ended up at the marina, but she quickly won the hearts of the employees and is now known as the marina mascot. With no other species of her kind around, she has made friends with people, pigeons, and seagulls.

An employee puts out some feed for Aflac.

Aflac loves breadcrumbs in her water.

The employees keep fresh food and water by the marina office.

Now who could resist a face like this?

Aflac shows off for the camera.

I couldn't resist filtering at least one photo.

Aflac can usually be seen outside the office, on the grassy side.

"I hear you in there. Where's my chow?"

Note: Crabby Crab tried to make friends with Aflac but she would have nothing to do with him.  I guess ducks are naturally wary of crabs.

I researched a bit about the Muscovy Duck and it's under the Red List of Threatened Species. She would really need a mate! When she gets one, there would be Muscovy Ducks all over Crisfield, with an orange color just like their mother. So cute! The incubation period is only 35 days, and they lay more than 8 eggs too!

Haha, I really like that picture wherein Aflac shows off. There's something witty about it LOL!

It's probably a good thing that Aflac and Crabby didn't get too friendly. I can't begin to imagine the offspring. Although the eggs might be quite tasty.

Super shots, Patty. Aflac almost looks surreal in the close up pic! Those eyes!
