Peacocks, peafowls, and peachicks. And ponies. Yes, ponies.

Peacocks in Maryland
"Most people have forgotten how to live with living creatures, with living systems and that, in turn, is the reason why man, whenever he comes into contact with nature, threatens to kill the natural system in which and from which he lives." - Konrad Lorenz

Seldom do I leave home without a camera, but this past Tuesday, June 5, I did just that. As luck would have it I ran into to some Come Here's, as they call all new-comers around these parts. All I had was my iPhone, so not wanting to pass up a very unusual photo I pulled it out and took a snap.

A little late with the posting of the "first" photo capture of these royal birds. I had pre-posted it to run on 7/10, but since they seem to be in the news, I moved them up a month. Hopefully, no one will harm them and I can get a "real" photo next time I come across them, or they me.

FYI: Peafowl, native to India and Burma, is the name for a male peafowl. Female peafowl are called peahens and baby peafowl are called peachicks. Peafowl are part of the pheasant family. They are omnivorous and eat most plant parts, flower petals, seed heads, insects and other arthropods, reptiles, and amphibians. Metropolitan South Florida has a permanent feral population, and according to Wikipedia are protected by law.

Why do I pre-post? When I have time, I sit down at my computer and post photos that have piled up, or photos from my travels or old news assignments. When I cover something that needs to be posted in a timely manner, I go into my editor and do a switch a roo. Easy peasy. I am not sure how far into the future I can post, but in the past I have posted up to two months in advance. I still keep current the important photos and dates of events for those who follow my blog.

Since I am talking about June, July and past, present, and future, as well as critters, here are a couple of photos to remind you that the 2012 Chincoteague Pony Swim is coming up in July. Hope to see you there.
