June 9, 2012 is "Free Fishing" day in Maryland

June 9, 2012 is "Free Fishing" day in Maryland

It is going to be hot today, so what better way to cool off than playing Tom Sawyer sitting under an old oak tree, wetting a line, not awfully particular about catching anything. Today, as well as on July 4, 2012, you can wet a line even if you don't have a license. Tom never had to worry about that. Some things have changed but the joy of fishing remains.

So pack a lunch and head out to your favorite fishing hole or as Govener O'Mally says,  "Our free-fishing days are the perfect time for everyone to experience Maryland’s exceptional fishing opportunities. I encourage you to take your family and friends to our abundant streams, lakes, rivers, ponds, bays and ocean to enjoy quality time with one another and our natural world."
