Food Lion Grand Opening in Crisfield

I am a little late with this post, but for all you people out of the area who have been checking in to see when Food Lion would open - they are now open, as of April 28. Below are a few photos from opening day.

It was a good day for a grand opening.

I was a little late getting to the event, and missed the ceremonies, but I thought it was wonderful that the Crisfield High School Band was invited to play.

And Food Lion is already giving back to our town.

Now, let's do some shopping...

Looks like my cart - always full.

That's Crisfield Mayor P.J. Purnell in the center with Hazel "Hurricane" Cropper, one of the fastest crab pickers around - you will see her at the crab picking contest if you are here during Crab Derby weekend. Far left, is the assistant manager of Food Lion. I can't remember his name, but he is super nice guy.

That's Tidy Mister, trying out one of the brand new electric carts.

Stock up on those specials.

And remember, we still have Riggin's. Buy local and support all your merchants. That is what makes a town grow and prosper.

Oh, and Mayor Purnell presented the developer, center, with the Keys to the City.  I can't remember the developer's name either, but I do thank you. That is his daughter with him.  Now those Keys to the City are not given out lightly. They mean you have done something exceptional. I know you can't see the plaque well, but it bears an oyster knife and a crab picking knife. How cool is that?

I remember when we got our Food Lion. It was great that we didnt have to drive 40 miles for groceries anymore.

I loved Food Lion but they were the first to close when the Wal-Mart Super Store opened their doors. BiLo was the second. That leaves the Pig (Piggly Wiggly) and IGA... still pretty good for a town of 4,000! I guess it shows we love to eat in SC!

Noe Noe, I know what you mean. We had to drive a long distance to shop at Food Lion.

Bev, We won't have any Wal-Marts around here. It would just take the "small town" feel out of our small town. Always room for growth, but no mega-growth.
