Watermen on the Crisfield City Dock

“Where there is perhaps a province in which the photograph can tell us nothing more than what we see with our own eyes, there is another in which it proves to us how little our eyes permit us to see.” ~ Dorthea Lange

I am just getting around to posting this photo I took late last week while on the run. I didn't have time to find out what they were doing but they were certainly engaged in something.

I am sure a little gutting, perhaps cutting up some bait, or fillets for tonight's feast!

It looks to me that they are busy with scratch off lottery tickets.

hi patty,
like the quote,
goes well with your narrative.

it seems that these days are crammed
with interruptions. some things DO make us grateful, though. your pics, for instance.

keep yer finger on the shutter . . .

Maybe doing something to the motor?.
I like the flag, which adds to this "Eye Catcher" photo.

It's fishing lures. They are choosing the best ones to use on their fishing trip. They will stick them on their hats and off they will go.
I hope everyone in Maryland, especially Crisfield, especially you and your family Patty, have a wonderfully amazing Thanksgiving holiday this weekend! Do you stuff turkeys or stuff crabs or stuff turkeys with crabs? Thank you so very much for all of the love and support you have sent our way this year. Barry and I really appreciate your time and energy.
Love and (((HUGS))) xoxo

Happy Thanksgiving to all the people in Crisfield!

Our Fall harvest being much earlier than yours (given our shorter growing season), we celebrated our Thanksgiving a month ago.

Now we can only dream of turkey.

And envy you.

Hey Barry, I just read that you got a Kindle. How is yours working? I bought one when they first came out (actually it was the second generation)and I had to send it back. Turns out there are dead zones in the US and Canada and my house was in one of them. I could use it fine within a few blocks of my house but that isn't the point of having a Kindle is it? Amazon realized I was in a dead zone and gave me a full refund.

Hope yours is working.

bARE-eYED sUN: Thanks. I appreciate that. I got confused trying to find out which one of your blogs I visited. Gimme a hint.

B&B: I don't think they won anything.

Imac: Not sure. I watched them for awhile and was never able to make out what they were doing. The wind was blowing really hard and I stayed in a safe zone. I did not have a hat on that day or I would have popped right in to see what they were doing.

Barry and Linda: I love you two. And Lindsay, of course.

Pink Bird House: Thanks for stopping in. I miss you, gal. I love Germany this time of year. All the lights are spectacular.

The people in the photo are my father (yellow pants) and brother Bill and Matt Clayton. They are shucking oysters after they had been out power dredging in the Tangier Sound portion of the Chesapeake Bay.

Anonymous: Thanks for posting and letting us know what they were doing. I usually talk to the watermen when I photograph them (they are my heroes), but I had to go somewhere and did not want to mess up my hair. My goodness, the wind must have been blowing 40 miles an hour. I usually have a hat on when the wind is up, but it was pretty clam around my house.

Say hello to your family for me. And thank them for all their hard work. People who sit down in fancy restaurants around the Eastern Shore (and New York, Jersey, and all the other places around the county that our seafood is shipped to don't know what all goes in to getting those crabs and oysters to their table.
