"Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail."  ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

I was wondering what to do for the 10th anniversary of 9/11. My initial thought was to go black with no post, my second thought was to post one of the many American Flags I have photographed, accompanied with tribute text. Then I had a train of other thoughts, but decided to leave the tributes to FaceBook, Twitter, bloggers, and the professional media, at least for today.

While other people are laying wreaths and giving moving speeches, I have opted to honor 9/11 with recent photos I took at the Garrett County Fair, near Deep Creek Lake, in Oakland, Maryland,   What better way to say we are a great people who will let no one, no country, bring us down? Americans have always survived the worst, always rising up. That is what makes us a great nation.

My 9/11 photo will appear on 9/12, after the ever-fickle media has moved on to other things.

This little face, captured in the crowd, is a shining example that reminds us that no matter what happens, we will always rise from the ashes, and life as we know and love it will always return, oftentimes leaving us a better people and a stronger, safer nation.
