Somerset County Arts Council - Black Light Art

Be sure and click on photos to enjoy the beauty of this art.

Now you see it...

Now you see it differently. And you can touch it.

I thought I would entertain you today with a little fun and fancy art from Lorraine Hudson whose art can be seen at the Somerset Arts Council in Crisfield, through May 30. For more info call Earlene at 410.968.2787.

Hudson works in mixed media, and many of her canvases are sculpted by hand. All of her works are created to be viewed in both normal and black light. Each creation is treated with a special coating, allowing the viewer to interact with Hudson's art by touch. This make her art ideal for children and the visually challenged.

The Somerset County Arts Council is funded by a grant from the Maryland State Arts Council.

I've never seen a black light art exhibit before, interesting take on the art going on here. The change in color tones casts a whole different perspective.

I love back light art......I think it reminds me of being a teenager. Remember those black light bulbs we'd buy and then the amazing posters??

Wow, seeing as my cousin is an artist I have been to quite a few art shows/galleries, but never saw anything as interesting or as fascinating at these pictures. It would be fun just to be in the building while the black lights are on!! Fantastic post, dear friend. I am totally enthralled with today's subject . ciao, Debby

When you go to Singapore, You will get on the train and get off at the Somerset station. On one side is the John Little Departmental store. Across the road , the most prestigious store Robinsons. They are owned by the same people. The employees of Robinsons are very proud to be working for them.

I love the ghostly figures moving around in the time exposures...and the black-light art. Reminded me of my hippie days when I would draw weird ink drawings under black light, stoned, of course.

Since I was a child I've always been fascinated by black light. My mom bought a mosquito catcher that used black light, and thus my fascination began. I wish I can visit a similar exhibit in my country.
Was it difficult to take photos of the exhibit because of the low light?

Glad everyone likes the art work. It is nice, isn't it?

Garando wanted to know if it was difficult to photograph. Not really. It took a few shots to get the exposure right.

Naturally, I used a a tripod, and shot at a slow exposure. I used my flash manually, off the tripod, and gave the room a super short burst of light, just enough that it did not wash out the black light effect.

BTW: Love your photos of Poland. Hope you will join us in our Friday shoot outs.
