My Town Friday Shoot Out - Getting Around

Assignment by Science Girl in France.

Reggie Girl and me take turns picking random names so that other shooters can participate in picking the assignment for the week. I picked Science Girl (from names I keep in a bowl). Science Girl is a new shooter. Welcome!

She challenged us on how we get around our cities and towns without cars. That was an easy one for me because Crisfield is a biking, walking, and boating town. Some of the photos are recent; some are from my archives. Enjoy.

Nothing like a stroll on the sidewalks on a warm afternoon.

I love getting around on our boat. In the summer we head over to Somers Cove Marina where we keep our boat. We visit friends who live on the water, head to the beach, do a little fishing, or go to Smith Island. We love to hit the tiki bar (formerly Side Street, now the Olde Crisfield Crab & Steakhouse - opening in June) in the late afternoons. You can tie up and jump off for a cool one, or have a great meal at the restaurant to top off your tiring day on the water. Note: not our boat.

I saw this bike coming and got into position. Little did I know, until the bike got nearer, that it was my husband. He was supposed have been cutting the grass!

Pat Reese, Sr. can be seen driving his cart around town on most days. Sometimes he and his wife go out for a little ride around the town in the late afternoons. Reese owns Southern Connection, a seafood packing and distribution business. You can also buy seafood at Southern Connection.

Another walker on a beautiful afternoon. Hey, watch out for all that traffic while you are talking on your cell phone.

Dogs gotta walk, too.

Some dogs like to walk alone.

My husband, after I made him come home to finish cutting the grass. The Honda scooter is mine. Crisfield is the perfect place for scooters. You see a lot of them in the late afternoons and on weekends.

Watermen not only use their boats to get to work, their boats are their work.

Getting around in the marsh.

Kids like to get around, too. This was a cute kid. He was staying with his grandparents while his mother was stationed in Iraq.

Teens have their own preferred method of getting around. Whoo hoo! I want to try that one day.

Getting around at Janes State Park in Crisfield. Bring your own or rent one. Beautiful campgrounds and cabins. Um? I think someone was eying lunch. And he was looking at the kayaker!

A lot of people from Tangier Island and Smith Island keep cars at the marina in Crisfield. When they come to town (some come on the mail boat - some in their own boats like these folks did), they head to their cars to stock up on goods and run other errands.

Super cool buggy kids just chillin'.

Ride sharing.

Crisfield is on the bay, so when a hurricane comes we still have to get around; the lady in the photo was on her way to the grocery store. This hurricane hit us 3 years ago. No damage, and all the water was gone in a day or two. A small price to pay for living in paradise.

And the price is well worth it.

bty....my golf cart is for sale. :-)

I saw you have started a My Town Shoot Out blog. Is there going to be a list of participants? or a way for us to keep track of fellow Shoot Out Gang?

This is great. I learned more about your place through this post. Sad to read that it hit by the hurricane three years ago. We experienced flood here.

I don't think I've ever seen such a variety of transportation in one place! I like the pooch walking alone, looking like he's contemplating. That and the flying skateboarder!

What a hoot! I'm getting so I look forward to Fridays! Also interesting to see some similarities -- I shot walkers and cellphones and baby carriages too. Not having a motorcyle, I had to shoot my lawnmower...of course it was idle...but I suspect that in the end, both I and your husband got the lawn mowed in the end. Great shots! I wanted a skateboard but never got one...love the aerial moment you caught! Great shoot, Patty.

Hello, first time here. Nice photos! My favorite one is the lady sitting in the shopping cart. The city I live in gets flooded easily during the rainy season, (which I sarcastically call the "Flood Festival") so it's good to know that shopping carts thing might come in handy for situations like that. ;)
But seriously, I'm glad that the hurricane didn't cause any damage or injuries.

Patty that is so funny it was your husband on that bike and that he should have been mowing the grass. Busted!
I for got about strollers that's a great way to get around for the youngins. I have one in the back of the truck. When I bike shared, it was sitting on the handle bars, scary to think about now days. I spent a few years riding a skate board too. Now I value my knees and hips more than that ole ride.
These were such fun pictures.
Yes I got your email and it just made my day! Thanks so much for your encouragement.
Smiles for a great weekend!

All: I am running behind. What's new? I will catch up by Sunday.

I could do a blog-by but I like to study all the photos. Everyone goes to a lot of trouble to do these shoot outs and I want to enjoy the fruits of their labor without having to rush.

Patty,
I really like the marsh shot, the little kid on the scooter, and the shopping cart!

Wishbone: We had a wonderful tiki bar that was built at Side Street. Don't come now because it was all sold and it is getting a new overall. When completed, it is going to be The Old Crab and Steak House. And it is going to be awesome. They will be opening in June.

Hope all ya'll are doing well on Hooper's Island. I am going to make a trip there soon.

Patty,
Like you, I love to take my time looking at everyone's posts...I've been going in alphabetical order off of Gordon's site.

So, here I am at yours. I love how you showcase your town, the people and the places. What a great place to live... Your scooter is way cool!

Oh I want to live there too, such a fabulous place. I will have to look it up on my new 'map of the world'. My geography is pretty poor, which is why I wanted it. Fabulous photos, a lovely place to live.
