Gordon's Always Hits the Spot...

Especially when I am in a pinch for time. Friendly people, and always a photo to be had inside or out.

Joseph W. Beach said, "There is indeed, perhaps, no better way to hold communion with the sea than sitting in the sun on the veranda of a fishermen's cafe."

You can hold communion with the bay by talking to the watermen at Gordon's six days a week, from before the sun comes up until 9:00 pm. When you visit Crisfield, be sure and pay a visit. A lot of history to be found at Gordon's. It's one of our treasures.

Note: These are not watermen (they were out working when I took this photo). The watermen can be found early A.M. or right after they unload their day's catch, or on a really windy day. But you don't need watermen to enjoy the flavor of Gordon's. It is truly a slice of Americana.

Be sure to try Gordon's coffee. It has reputation of being the best coffee around. Because Gordon's is closed on Sundays, people buy cups of it late Saturdays so they won't have to go a day without their Gordon's coffee.

I wonder if the man standing on the left knows he looks like Dick VanPatten.

Great to have nice friendly people letting you take their photos.

Once I was taking a photo outside a restaurant building. A man asked why I was taking the photo. I am not even sure if he was the manager.

Cheers,

Ann

I do love visiting your town through your blog. Maybe one day I will get to visit in person.

Kind of like an evolving history table there, the stories changing and moving on with each day, each new group of watermen sitting there. History is definitely written all over this photo.

You are right, Joanne. This was taken in the middle of the day, so these were are not watermen, but you can usually find retired watermen any time of the day chatting at Gordons. I was just riding by, and jumped out of my car when I saw the guys sitting, enjoying the sunny afternoon.

The working watermen can be find early in the mornings or right after they unload their day's catch. Another good day to catch them is on a windy day, when the winds are too dangerous to go out.

J9: That is Mike, a friend of mine. I will tell him he looks live a movie star. He is looking out at Main Street because everyone knows everyone in Crisfield, so horns are honking and hands are waving all the time on Main Street.

Patty, I feel like you of late, never seeming to be able to get caught up to all my blog friends because daily life here in the family and the business keep calling me away from the computer.

I would love to go around and get pictures of people here in town, but germans can be a bit funny about things like that, they don't even like it when I take pics of their gardens. They think I am invading their privacy, so I have to be careful what I snap pics of. I love it that people there in your town not only don't seem to mind, but smile up big time for your camera! take care, Debby

J9 and Patty,

Yes, he does look like that 8 is enough guy, Dick something. I used to watch every episode of that show. My Dad who had 9 kids with my mum, and who used to live in England and Australia, couldn't believe a white man could have 8 kids, refused to sit down and watch with me and my mum. (Him being a Chinese man)

has the Hollywood Dick gone hiding in Maryland?LOL

I grew up in a small town where men always congragated like this in the early morning and made hilarious jokes about anything and everything! That's what this reminds me of! It always seemed like pure happiness!
