Friday "My Town" Shoot Out from Crisfield: Water, Water, Everywhere...

"Never a ship sails out of the bay but carries my heart as a stowaway." ~ Roselle Mercier Montgomery, The Stowaway

I tested my camera by hanging off the side of our boat for this shot. Be sure and click on photos to enlarge.

This week's assignment came from Hensly in Hawaii. Living on the bay, it worked out well for me! Anyone who wants to join in on our Friday shoot outs can go to our info site and find out how to join up with our "gang" of shooters. I am still editing, and the list of participants in forthcoming. You can always find the list to the right of the scroll bar on this site.

Townhouses on the water near the Brick Kiln beach.

A worker at the Crisfield water treatment plant spruces up one of the filtering tanks.

A boat at Somers Cove Marina. I wish our toy was that big.

"Rats with wings." But you gotta love 'em.

I ran into these students from Pinehurst Elementary School in Salisbury, on the city dock. It is not uncommon to see students from all over Maryland eager to hop a ride on a tour boat or mail boat to learn about life on Smith Island or Tangier Island. Adults also come to Crisfield for field trips to the islands. Summers bring tour buses from many states. You might want to check us out!

I could use a little of that. When can I hop aboard?

Somers Cove Marina. Come and sit a spell on our boat. After that, we will put you up for the night in one of our bedrooms (if you don't mind sharing with our cats), or you can cozy up for the night on our boat. It sleeps two.

This is a photo I took last year at a "Relay for Life" run. I could not pass up the water bottle.

I took this on an assignment two years ago. That contraption is a lawnmower. Yes. A lawnmower. The DNR cuts eel grass, dries it out for seeds, and plants the seeds in areas where the eel grass has been depleted. The eel grass is a very important part of a healthy bay. If you click on the photo, you can see the grass being gathered by DNR workers and volunteers. Once the eel grass is moved to the DNR boat, the "Lawnmower Man" makes another run.

I couldn't wait around for the birds to show up.

I am not sure what this lady was washing. She was too far away to shoot with my 200. I was shooting something else, and when I turned around to leave, I saw her and could not pass up a water shot.

If you click on the photo to enlarge, you will see the lady on the boat was shooting me while I was shooting her.

Somers Cove Marina.

Somers Cove Marina pool is ready for the season.

Sign up for a slip and enjoy our private pool. The kids will love you for it!

Now, folks, if you have never been to a boat docking contest, you need to head on over to Crisfield for Labor Day weekend. We have 3 fun-filled days of non-stop activities during the Annual National Hard Crab Derby & Fair, and one of them is our famous boat docking contest. Working waterman compete in timed exercises, and it is one of the biggest draws around. For tickets and info contact the Crisfield Chamber of Commerce.

Crisfield. Visit us soon. You'll be glad you did! Oh, and now is a good time to get a good deal on one of the several condo units around town.

Patty, if any of us could possibly come up with some great shots with WATER at the theme, I just knew you would come shining thru. This week's theme was just written with you in mind, living near so much water as you do! Great photos, love the one of the kids in the pool, and that group therapy named boat got me smiling. I am sitting here just enjoying the photos so much, thinking of the states and MD and how lovely it is there. I love it here now too, but hey, as Dorothy from Oz said, "there's no place like home". have a great weekend dear friend, a fantastic job on this week's shoot out!! Debby

Hi Patty,

Reading about and looking at th ephotos of Crisfield make me think that you are posting about Auckland. Our cities have so much similarities.

Thanks for explaining about the eel grass. I had to read it two times. I wonder if I can find them here. The sea weeds reminded me of when I was a pre teen, my mum got my little sister and I to a public canal to collect seaweed to feed our ducks. We hated it then, but now, it's all good memories.

I posted the Tom Yum Soup recipe for you in my other blog.

Hope you like it.

Cheers,

That last picture was so sunny and inviting. That was cute that the lady on the boat was shooting you while you was shooting her. I guess we never know who's taking our pictures. I'm coming for labor day :) Gotta figure out how to get this in an already busy summer.

Good shoot, as always. I love the spray shot in the beginning but I suspect you had to buy a new camera after taking it...and a good laugh over the woman tossing Bagman back into the pool. Water through the life preserver also a classic.

Great shots, that swimming pool looks so inviting. There's something about water that is so comforting. We have water coming out of the sky this morning. It's raining here in New England.

There is such fun and energy in your photos Patty.

Hanging off the edge of your boat to capture a photo! Heck I thought I was brave going out in a drizzle to shoot water flowing down our drain!

I love ALL of your photos! They are always just perfect! The Relay for Life photo is my favorite. I actually thought you were capturing the sweat on her brow! Her facial expression was so captured, I didn't even see the water bottle at first! Love them all!

Have a great weekend!

Oh my goodness, I have missed out so many wonderful posts here! I'm so sorry for my late visit, Patty. My sinusitis has given me a hard time, but I think I have recovered now. At least I hope so. Thank you for the kind words on my blog. They really mean a lot to me. I do take photos with my mobile camera, but lately the KYOCERA has become my favorite :). Have a great week.
