This little seagull (or should I say big fat seagull?) wants you to get on over to the Eastern Shore and see what's happening in Crisfield.

We have some "cool" things coming up. This is all the time I had for tracking down events. If you have an event coming up email me and I will add you to the list of wonderful things to do in Crisfield. Whoo hoo! There's a party somewhere all summer long.

July 25, 2009 - Wheels on the Waterfront - 5-8pm near the city dock (then you can hit the dock for the above movie). First 150 cars receive a dash plaque. Proceeds benefit our wonderful Lower Somerset Ambulance Squad (great job, guys and gals).

August 7, 2009 - Shrimp Dinner at the American Legion. Enjoy shrimp and a million dollar view of the sunset while you dine on the bay. 5:00pm - 410.968.241

August 8, 2009 - Movies on the Dock - Jacob Have I Loved. This movie was filmed right here in Crisfield. NC.

August 22, 2009 - Movies on the Dock - Finding Nemo, NC.

Sept.5, 6 & 7, 2009 – Fri., Sat., Sun., 62nd Annual Hard Crab Derby. Folks, if only do one thing this year for fun this is it! We have several days of everything from crab Races to skiff races. We have a crab cooking contest, boat docking contest, crab picking contest, a carnival for kids and the "kid" in all of us, A-1 entertainment, and of course, crabs and oysters for "eatin." You want want to miss one minute of this once a year event.

Crisfield, Maryland J. Millard Tawes Crab and Clam Bake -2009

I will not be attending the 2012 Clam Bake.  I will be packing up the car and heading to Ocean City, Maryland to enjoy a cool day and evening by the beach, complimented by a live concert, one of many to be held in Ocean City. What are you doing July 15? If you are not at Somers Cove Marina in Crisfield enjoying all you can eat crabs, clams, steamed corn, oysters (raw, steamed or fried), fried fish, french fries, beer, and watermelon, you are missing out on one of the biggest events in the State of Maryland.

Every year, for 33 years, seafood lovers and politicians have been gathering at Somers Cove marina to dine on the best our bay has to offer, and to talk politics. For one day out of the year, our little town plays host to politicians from all over the state, voters, lobbyists, and people who travel from faraway states just to partake of the scrumptious flavors of the Chesapeake.

The price for the all you can eat and drink gala is only $40.00, and you get your own crab mallet and beer drinking jar. Whoo hoo!

No matter what your political affiliation, this is without a doubt a summer, "Must-do." So take a ride in you car, boat, or hop a plane and make it on over our way. While you are here, make a week of it and enjoy the scenic beauty of Crisfield.

And just who is J. Millard Tawes? He was born in Crisfield in 1894, and was elected Governor of Maryland in 1958, becoming the 59th governor of our state.

Oh, some of you may want to comment on the stickers some of people are wearing. I picked these photos at random. This is not a political blog. But you can wear your very own sticker to support your candidate on July 15! Who knows? I may randomly pick you to photograph this year. Whoo hoo! Let the "party" begin.

A Slice of the South

I was passing by this house today and saw these 3 dresses hanging from the ornamental trim. The cool shade had settled in on the porch and the dresses, glinting in the setting sun, stood out like fine jewels in a storefront window. What could I do? I had to stop for a photograph.

The scene so reminded me of the deep south. If one did not know this photo was taken in Crisfield, Maryland they would automatically think of the old southern homes in Georgia.

Actually, we are more southern than one would think. Just a few miles up the road from our house is Ape Hole, situated on the bay. It is the southern most point in Maryland. So I guess that makes us kind of southern and famous at the same time.

We don't drink too many Mint Juleps around these parts, but we do sit around on our porches and enjoy the summer afternoons and wave at people who pass by. And they wave back.

Plenty of hospitality to be found here. So why don't all ya'll think about coming to our little ole' town for your next getaway? You'll be glad you did. And I'm sure we can round up a teeny little Mint Julep or two to go with all those fresh steamed crabs you'll be wanting.

People come to Crisfield for many reasons: Crabs, oysters, quiet, fishing, boating, or to attend one our many festivals. It is worth visiting us just to enjoy a beautiful sunset.

Crisfield "My Town" Shoot Out -Celebrate Life

I have been a little busy, so excuse the lack of commentary. Also, I usually schedule my shoot in advance so it will post late on Thursdays, but it did not work the last two times. Since a lot of people will be traveling this weekend, I am hitting the "Publish Post" button now. Enjoy!
