When you are heading into Crisfield be sure and stop at the Robert C. B. Long and Edwin D. Long, Jr., Centralized Athletic Complex located on 413 in Westover. Stretch you legs on their quarter-mile track, let the kiddos enjoy the playground, and if you've packed a lunch, you can enjoy it under their new pavilion. The park has a ton of acres and has plans for expansion. All they need is grant money. How about it Maryland? Help Somerset County expand our Field of Dreams.

The Somerset County Department of Parks and Recreation is supported by the Somerset County Board of Commissioners. We are responsible for operating a variety of parks, facilities, and recreation programs within Somerset County, Maryland. This includes amenities such as athletic facilities, adult fitness, environmental, special events, trips, sports, classes, and more. Our parks facilities and recreation programs are available to all county residents and we encourage you to enjoy the many benefits that Somerset County Parks and Recreation has to offer.

 

HIGH SCHOOL INDOOR FIELD HOCKEY TOURNAMENT

Somerset County Recreation and Parks will be offering a High School Field Hockey Tournament on December 4, 2010 at the County Complex Gym in Princess Anne. Registration is $200 per team (includes officials fees). Registration is due by November 12. Late registration fee is $250 and is due by November 19. Round robin pool play with single elimination. 25 minute games. Call Lauren for more information at 410.651.4980.

INDOOR SOCCER

Somerset Recreation and Parks will be having its 2011 Indoor Soccer season starting January 8, 2011 at 9:00 am. Indoor Soccer is open to boys and girls ages 5 -17 as of August 1, 2010 (Kindergarten through High School). Sign-ups will run through December 3, 2010. Cost is $35.00. Scholarship help is available to help defer the cost of the program if signed up before the deadline. Late registrations will be accepted until December 10. Cost will be $45.00. No financial aid available for late registrations. Call our office at 410.651.4980 for more information.

INDOOR FIELD HOCKEY

We will be offering Indoor Field Hockey for girls grades 3 -8 at the Somerset Complex Gym in Princess Anne. Sign-ups will run through December 10, 2010. Cost is $35.00. Scholarship help is available to help defer the cost of the program if signed up before the deadline. Late registrations will be accepted until December 17. Cost will be $45.00. No financial aid available for late registrations. Indoor Field Hockey will begin on Friday January 7, 2011 at 6:00 pm. Call Gary at 410-651-4980 for more information.

BASKETBALL

Basketball is open to boys and girls grades 3-8. Sign-ups will run through December 10, 2010. Cost is $35.00. Scholarship help is available to help defer the cost of the program if signed up before the deadline. Late registrations will be accepted until December 17. Cost for late registrations will be $45.00. We will also be having a Basketball Clinic for 1st and 2nd grade boys and girls. The basketball program starts Monday January 10, 2010 and will be held at the Somerset County Complex Gym in Princess Anne. For more information call Gary at 410.651.4980.

OUTDOOR ADULT WALKING and JOGGING

Outdoor walking/jogging is now available at the Centralized Athletic Facility in Westover FREE of charge. A half mile walking and jogging trail has been completed and is open for use. We are offering an Outdoor Walking Program. Forms will track weekly progress, and can be turned in at the walkers convenience. Incentives will be offered. Registration forms can be picked up at the Recreation and Parks office during our regular office hours from 8:30 to 4:30. For more information call 410.651.4980.

GOLF FOR YOUTH FUNDING ASSISTANCE
Funds are now available to provide financial assistance to help children in Somerset County participate in programs offered by Somerset County Recreation and Parks. The Golf for Youth Funding Assistance Program will fund the participation fee in our programs to qualified applicants. Application forms can be obtained at the Somerset County Recreation and Parks Office in Westover, Maryland or on our website www.somersetrecandparks.org
