Photos are all filtered. I think Van Gogh would have liked one of them. Yes. that is a bee on the flower.

And the winners are...?

Some lucky Crab Derby and boat docking contestants will be going home with one of these beauties next weekend.

This past Thursday, I snapped a few photos of the "trophies-in-waiting" while they were being stored in the Crisfield Chamber of Commerce office. On Friday they were moved to a secret location (not sure if that is true but it sounds cool).  I would have liked to have re-arranged them but there was no way I was going near them. Breaking one is punishable by death. That's not true, either, but I sure wouldn't want to break one of these pretties.

 They are prettier than they look. I had to shoot with the light that was there because I was traveling with one camera and no flash. Better than no camera.

Little Miss and Mr. Crustacean Winners - 2010-2011

My time is very limited. I will be busy Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, so I have pre-posted my posts for those days. But I thought I would take a few moments to post the winners of the Little Miss and Mr. Crustacean Pageant held this evening. Read coverage in the Sept 1, edition of the Crisfield-Somerset County Times. I will post more photos on Tuesday.


Congratulations to everyone. The talent was just wonderful. Bravo! I am proud of each of you.  And don't forget the Miss Crustacean pageant next Thursday!

Working on the dock of the bay...

Last week, I headed to Glenwood Evans to take photos. I love to photograph the waterman when they come in with their catch, as well as the workers who have to work fast to get the crabs sized and  into the cooler so they will be yummy fresh when they reach the market. Thanks to everyone at Glenwood Evans and to the crabbers who always welcome me and my cameras. It is always a pleasure to photograph on this dock.

At any given time of the day Glenwood Evans  can look like Grand Central Station, with boats coming in from as far as the eye can see. The dock workers work hard. In the summer months, it can feel like 100 degrees, and in the winter the frost can freeze on your nose. I caught the workers earlier in the day when a few lucky waterman caught their limit.

 This is Lewis moving fish bait that the crabbers use to restock their pots with when they come in. He has been working at Glenwood Evans since he was 10, which gives him 75 years of employment  under his belt. Lewis is cool. Read more about him on my blog site. 

This is Lewis fussing at me. Not really. He loves to kid, but he is king of this dock and if you are in his way he will let you know.

A crabber arrives with his bounty. This is one of the faces who brings you fresh Maryland crabs. Think about their hard work the next time you eat Maryland seafood.

The seafaring dog always gets a fish treat from one of the workers.

And he doesn't mind sharing with the worker whose having his lunch. "Say, pal, I'll trade you a fish for that Subway."

The workers rest when they can because they never know when 10 or more boats will be on the horizon.

Crisfield Miss Crustacean Pageant, Thursday, Sept., 2, 2010

Crisfield Miss Crustacean Pageant, Friday August 27, at Crisfield High School - 7:00 p.m.

Our annual Miss Crustacean Pageant is a big deal around here - a really big deal, mainly because there is not much going on in Crisfield. We have no theater, no shopping experiences, and no art scene. When the few events that happen yearly come around, it is like Christmas. Finally, there is something to do! This event is part of Crab Derby.

 I took photos of the contestants and I am happy to share them with you. Good luck to all the contestants.
