Sunset at Jenkins Creek

"Never go out of the house with a wide angle lens just before dusk." ~ I said that.


Last week, I grabbed my Nikon 700 with a 17-35 wide-angle lens, and jumped on my scooter just to get away from the computer. I was not in the market for a photo, but just in case...photographers are so afraid they will miss something if they leave the house without a camera.

By the time I made two passes around town, the light started to worry me. "Oh, no. I can't shoot what I think I am going to see with my wide-angle lens. Should I run back home?" No. Light moves fast. So I did the best I could.

You gotta be kidding me. Great light AND a rainbow? Well, I have not had time to play with my filters in a long time, so enjoy this filtered rainbow. That's a real double rainbow.

Won't you bring your camera to Crisfield? We are so photogenic.

Sitting on top of Captain's Galley Condominiums, enjoying a little music. It doesn't get any better than this, folks. I think the photo says it all.

I have been so busy I forgot to mention that the annual Wheels on the Waterfront Classic Car Cruise-in  will be held this Saturday, July 31, on the very road beneath this happy musician. Also enjoy wine-tasting at the Olde Crisfield Crab and Steak House. Hope to see you there!

My Private Island in Crisfield

Everyone knows about my "secret place" in Crisfield. Well, they don't know where it is, but they certainly enjoy the photos. I could never divulge the whereabouts of my secret place, but I can tell you about my "private island", because it belongs to anyone who can find it. You will need a boat to get there.


Now, I am not going to tell you exactly where it is, because it kind of belongs to those who can find it. It's not hard to find, and even if you don't find it, you will be able to find your own private island if you look long enough. Crisfield is full of secret places and private islands.

"Ahoy, Matey. Make room for one more."

You can usually find Gregg cooking something on the weekends.

Enjoy a walk along  pristine sand.

Kids love the island...

Dogs love the island...

There is always someone there to entertain you with music.

And if you don't like the music, you can get far enough away to hum your own music.

Or just watch the seagulls float by...

It's not great, but it sleeps two, and it's all ours.

Once you walk around the bend, the beach goes on forever.

Won't you bring your boat to Crisfield and go on an island hunt? You may just find us?

If you do find us, one of the "island police" will have to inspect and approve you, so be on your best behavior. I hope you know the secret password. You have to know the secret password.

Governor Martin O'Malley tours Crisfield Rubberset Plant

If you have a good paint brush or two around the house, chances are that they were manufactured by the Rubberset plant in Crisfield, a division of Sherwin-Williams. Now, we all know that Sherwin-Williams makes great paint. And of course, if you have ever painted with a Sherwin-Williams paint brush, you know it applies paint like only a well-made paint brush can do.


Rubberset manufactures over 3 million paint brushes annually. That's right here in Crisfield! Pretty cool, I think. The plant also employees some 150 people, and has plans to expand it's workforce by another 80 employees in the near future.

During our annual Tawes Clam Bake,  Governor Martin O'Malley made a side-trip to meet with Crisfield Mayor P.J. Purnell for a tour of Rubberset. I was there. It was my second time photographing inside Rubberset. 


 We are extremely lucky not only to have had a plant such as Rubberset remain loyal to our town for many, many years, but recently expanded, and are continuing to expand.  Crisfield is very proud of Rubberset and it's employees who turn out quality work. You will see a lot of photographers in this photo-essay. When you work for a newspaper, you are supposed to avoid other photographers being in your photos. Since I am retired, I thought I would break a rule that I have always wanted to break. Besides, I think photographers can sometimes be an important part of the photograph.
