Somerset County Sheriff's Department Color Guard at Freedom Fest

Maryland Somerset County Sheriff's Department Color Guard
I was going to weave these photos into my Freedom Fest photos, but I took so many photos I decided to post them in small batches. This is one segment that required its own post.

When thinking of our freedoms and our safety, we can't forget the people that fight at home for us. Our city, county, and state law enforcement officials are out there every day laying their lives on the line for us.

We are proud of our Somerset County Color Guard!

J. Millard Tawes Crab and Clam Bake, 2011

J. Millard Tawes Crab and Clam Bake
The 4th of July is barely over. You had a good time. You ate too many hot-dogs and hamburgers, and maybe you are even a little sunburned. But it is never to early to plan for one of the hottest tickets in town, the 35th J. Millard Tawes Crab and Clam Bake, scheduled for Wednesday, July 20. Need more info? Call Val at the Crisfield Chamber of Commerce: 800.782.3913.

Click here for some photos I took last year, beginning with crab and corn steaming. It takes a lot of people and a whole bunch of volunteers to bring you this all-you-can-eat-and-drink event. Talk about eating too much? Don't miss this event!

See you there!

2011 Crisfield Freedom Fest fireworks

2011 Crisfield Freedom Fest fireworks, Maryland Army National Guard 229th Army Band
Everyone had a great time at the 3rd annual Freedom Fest. The Maryland Army National Guard 229th Army Band (shown in a few of the photos) provided patriotic entertainment before the fireworks. Since I am really, really retired, I will work on photos shot earlier in the evening later this week. I have some good ones, so stay tuned. More fireworks, too, but I may save those for file photos. Or maybe use more in my next post. I love having no rules.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this a successful event. What would we do without our volunteers?

Graphic intense so expect long load times, depending on your Internet. As you can see, I shot these photos from various locations to make it less boring for you, the viewer. I got my exercise in, too.

Mr Tawes, you were a real  trooper. Thank you Sir, for your service to our country. And the same to all our veterans and active service men and women. Without your sacrifices, this evening may have never happened.

There is a story without an ending in this photo. Of course, photos never have endings, not really. The ending? That's is yours to write and enjoy.

Classic Corvette ready to cruise the boulevard for the 4th

Corvette in Crisfield
 In My Car
Beach Boys

"When I'm behind the wheel
Horses of gas and steel
The highway is my home
In fiberglass and chrome
Fantasy car shiny Corvette
Let's take a ride you can't forget
Come on pretty lady ride with me.

In my car
I'm captain of my destiny
In my car
Pretty babe come cruise with me.

Come for a drive
And we'll arrive
Feelin' alive.

I'm master of my fate
When I accelerate
My new Vette is my throne
When on the road we roam we roam we roam roam
Cruisin' like we're in a dream
Feelin' like we're still sixteen
Being a part of the great American scene.

In my car
I'm captain of my destiny
In my car
Pretty babe come cruise with me.

Come for a drive
And we'll arrive
Feelin' alive."

What could be more American than apple pie and a classic car? Here's hoping everyone has a wonderful 4th of July weekend.  Ride into the endless summer with the wind in your hair, and have fun this weekend. Drive safe!
