Crisfield Lions Club decorates Crisfield

Last weekend, in the wee-hours of the morning, I followed members of the Lion's Club around Crisfield as they prepared us for the holiday season. Thanks for a job well done! A special thanks goes out to Eddie Heath who offered up his forklift for this holiday job. It made for a safer way to install the decorations. Last year, members installed them using an old deer stand.

Let me take a moment to thank all those who contribute throughout the year to making Crisfield a better place for everyone to live. We are a small town of around 3,000 people. Sometimes, we have to do for ourselves as well as for others.  I am proud to say that, though we could always use more volunteers, when a job needs doing, there is always someone who will step up to the plate. If you would like to become a volunteer, please call the Crisfield Chamber of Commerce or any one of our local organizations.

Crisfield D-Day survivors

I am a little late on this post because I have been busy, but I wanted to introduce my readers who live out of the area to two Crisfield natives  who are  D-Day survivors. Both fought on Omaha Beach at Normandy. Where there were once 16 million WW II veterans, there are only around 2 million, with more than 1,000 dying off each day. Thank you to all who served.

Of course not. Well, some people are certainly on the ball, like this couple bound for either Smith Island or Tangier Island. I forgot to ask! I captured Mr. and Mrs. Claus on the Crisfield City dock waiting to catch one of the mail-boats back home. I wonder what's in those packages. I know! I know! But I'm not talking.

Crisfield Fire Department gets into the holiday spirit

I captured "Santa's Helpers" at the Crisifeld Fire Department as they were spreading visual holiday cheer to the passing traffic. Actually, they are all members of the volunteer fire department. Thanks for the decorations, and for all your hard work throughout the year.

First Snow

The first photo should have been taken on a tripod, but I was coming back from a party and have to admit I was lazy and took this photo from my car window. The reason I took this photo was because it started snowing - not a lot, not even enough for the snow to show up without using my tripod and some fancy settings. So I had to butcher the snow photo by using a flash, something professionals don't do to Christmas light photos. But you can see the first snow flakes of the season in the second photo. The snow quickly turned into rain, but for moment it was beautiful against the backdrop of the colorful lights, at least in person. Before Christmas, I will get a good photo of this house, along with others so that you may enjoy the lights of Crisfield throughout the season.

Thanks to everyone in Crisfield who is volunteering their time to man the Red Kettles this year, and of course to those who give so that others may have. The Red Kettle can be found at various locations around Crisfield throughout the holiday season, but remember you can give to the Salvation Army any time of year. I took these snapshots in front of Gordon's.

It's official!  The wager on the Army Navy game between the two Chambers is on. Our Maryland Smith Island cake, courtesy of  Crisfield, Maryland Sweet Shoppe against New York's Orange County apple muffins, courtesy of  the Frisbee Pie Company . That's all I can tell you for now. I will do a follow up with photos after the full story breaks in the Dec. 8, edition of the Crisfield-Somerset County Herald. It's a good one too, so be sure and pick up a copy of the paper.
