Anyone for oysters?

Since we are the Seafood Capital of the World, I thought I would entertain you with some oyster photos. It is almost time for the crab boats to head out, so I will post some crab photos later for you crab lovers.

I don't care for oysters, but my husband loves them!

Rainy Day

It is a cloudy and rainy day in Crisfield, but people still get out and visit their favorite places.

At the city beach, people don't let a rainy day keep them from feeding the seagulls.

We have a lot of people in our town who make daily rounds, no matter what the weather, to feed the gulls, ducks, geese, and the homeless cats. A fine testament to the good-hearted people of our town.

Where are the photos you took?

I have received several emails and phone call from people who saw me shooting the Valentine's balls this weekend. They wanted to know when I would be posting the photos on this blog site.

This is just my little "play blog." I can't post assignments on my site. It may be that, in the future, I will be able to post one photo and direct people to my newspaper's web site, and that would be just so that people who don't live here could enjoy the events in our town, and read our daily newspaper. I always like to read newspapers in other cities and towns, especially small towns.

The Valentine's ball photos should be on the paper's web site sometimes today. Just click on the Daily Times link on the menu bar to the right.

I invite all those who don't live here to check out the site as well. We have some talented photographers, and there are always some nice photos in our web gallery. You can also submit your photos to the Daily Times. They love kids, weather, pets - anything you think is interesting. You can also chime in on the paper's blog.

The Daily Times is not located in Crisfield, but it is our only daily paper and you can keep up with all the Crisfield events and news. You can click on their "Weekly" newspaper link - and look for the Somerset Herald, which is specific to our area.

I previously posted the Crisfield Valentine's Day dock photo, but after receiving a Valentine's greeting photo from friends I could not resist reposting the dock photo along their photo. The reason, their photo was taken in Italy--the graffiti on the wall reads, "Happy Valentines. I love you."

So from Crisfield, Maryland and Greve, Italy, "Happy Valentine's Day to all!"

Delores, you could have composed that shot better! We photographers are so picky.

What I like about small towns

We fled the hustle and bustle of life in Atlanta in the seventies, and have been living in small towns since that time.

I have learned a lot about small towns. Here are a few things that make them special:

*I can bike, scooter, or walk anywhere I need to go.
*Gingerbread houses.
*Abandoned houses with histories waiting for someone to adopt them.
*I can breathe clean air.
*People are friendly – really friendly.
*You can see the stars at night.
*Waitresses take care of you.
*The pies and cakes in restaurants are homemade, and the taste of the coffee is like nectar to the tongue.
*Festivals, parades, and events that say, “We’re proud of our town.”
*People pitch in when someone is in trouble.
*You can write a check without pulling stuff out of your wallet.
*Picnics on the river.
*Picnics on the beach.
*Picnics on the cool grass on a hot day…and all three without distractions and noise.
*People wave.
*Church suppers bring out the whole town.
*Baseball games.
*Your local pizza shop will make you a heart shaped pizza.
*We have Fair Queens and Kings.
*And here, in Crisfield, the sunsets take your breath away.
